Joseph "Gene" Hoggard, founder of the LaRue County High School Band of Hawks, died Monday evening.
Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 in the LCHS Gym. A memory service will begin at 4 p.m. with a graveside service at 5 p.m. at Red Hill Cemetery.
The Band of Hawks has been asked to play at the memory service at 4 p.m., according to Band Director Jaime Smith.
"I know that this is not particularly good timing for most of you, but as we all know, we do not get to pick the day or the hour in which we are taken from this world. Time is so precious, and we only get one opportunity to honor him at this special service. So, your support in getting your kids here will be much appreciated by me and his family," Smith said.
The Band will rehearse noon to 4 p.m. Friday in order to perform a special piece in his honor at the memory service.
"I also want to invite those of you who are alumni that would like to rehearse and perform with the band to join us. I know Mr. Hoggard would like that. The number of available, school-owned instruments is low, so if possible, please bring your own instrument. If you plan to join us, please email me, so I'll have enough music copied," said Smith.
