The LaRue County Band of Hawks competed in the KMEA AAA West Quarterfinal Competition Saturday at Warren East High School in Bowling Green.

The Band of Hawks earned third place out of 13 bands, behind Adair County and Muhlenberg North High School. The Band of Hawks outscored Russell County by four points and Taylor County by five points, who came in fourth and fifth place respectively.

The band had the second highest visual effect score and second highest music effect score of the contest (behind Adair). The band is preparing to compete Saturday against the top 16 AAA bands in Kentucky in the KMEA AAA Semifinals Competition at Meade County High School.

LaRue County will take the field at 1:15 p.m. From there, the top four bands will advance to the finals competition that evening at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.

On Oct. 18, LaRue County finished third in class AAA and third overall in the Twin Lakes Marching Band Classic at Grayson County High school.

The band’s final score was 80.84, which earned a distinguished rating. The score was less than two points off the score of Muhlenberg North, which was named grand champion. Taylor County finished second in the field of 13.
