Several LaRue County High School basketball players have been recognized by the 5th Region Coaches Association.

The players are voted on by coaches in the region. The top team in the regular season receives three members on All-District and All-Region teams.

Senior Kelton Ford was named Co-Player of the Year, along with Brandon Price of John Hardin.

Ford, along with juniors Tyler Howell and Kody Key-Close, were named to the 18th All-District Team.

“All are outstanding young men and are very deserving of these awards,” said Head Coach Paul Childress. “I am very proud of each one.”

It’s the third year Ford has received the honor.

He was named to the 5th Region All-Tournament Team last year; the regular season 18th All-District Team for the past three years; and the 18th District All-Tournament Team for three years.

Ford also has been named the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches’ 5th Region Player of the Year which will be presented to him at the State Tournament on March 8, according to his coach, Paul Childress.

“Kelton has worked extremely hard on his own to get to the level he is at,” said Childress. “I am very happy for him that he is being recognized by the other coaches in the district and region for his play and what he has meant to our team this season.”

It’s the first selection for Howell and Key-Close.

“Tyler has worked very hard in the off season to get stronger and elevate his game,” said Childress. “He has been a very consistent performer this year on defense and rebounding and now is developing confidence on his offensive game as well. He has played really well in our district games and is very deserving of the award.

“Kody also has worked really hard and is being recognized for that with this honor,” Childress added. “He is our second leading scorer for the year and brings a lot of versatility to our team. He has been effective inside and outside for us this year which has been a big plus.”

After the district tournament, senior Dustin Coulter was named to the All-Tournament Team. Coulter scored 24 points in the tournament.

Lady Hawks

Junior Ivy Brown and sophomore Alexis Brewer were named to the all-seasonal team. Brown, Brewer and senior Haley Holt were named to the 18th All-District Team.

“Alexis and Ivy have made the All-District and All-Region teams for three and four straight years now respectively,” said Lady Hawk Head Coach Travis Wootton. “They are obviously pretty well respected around the region by the other coaches.”

Wootton said Holt made the team for the first year. Alisha Durbin and Alley Evans had a great season as well, he added, but Holt “got the nod from the other district coaches.”
