Opposing candidates were friendly to one another

The atmosphere was calm in the LaRue County Courthouse Tuesday night as the votes were announced in each precinct.

  • Johnny Cottrill and Bryan "Stumpy" Durham ran a clean race for the position of the LaRue County jailer. Both candidates were supporting of one another. Johnny Cottrill was the winner.
  • Rita Williams was defeated by Terry Cruse in the race for the mayors seat. Williams said "I have no regrets. I ran a clean and fair race and I wish Terry well in his win".
  • Election official, Rhonda Metcalf,reported that polling places "seemed to be a little busier than in May".
  • City Council members are Kenny DeVore, Woodie Handley, Glenda Wathen, Bonnie Clark, Jim Phelps and Otis Smith.
  • Bobby Shoffner, won the race for sheriff by a large margin and "is excited to work with the new constable, Joe Allen".
