The Hardin/LaRue office of the American Red Cross held its annual Volunteer Recognition program Sept. 29 at Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.
Seventy-five volunteers, staff and guests were treated to lunch and a gift of appreciation. Mayor David Wilmoth Jr., thanked everyone for their volunteer service this past year, recalling the Red Cross shelters that were set up during last winter’s ice storm. Keith Alvey, newly named chief executive officer of the Louisville Area Chapter – and a West Hardin High School graduate – gave an inspiring speech on the good work performed by the local Red Cross office.
Boyce and Patricia Vaughn were named Volunteers of the Year. The Ellen Beeler Blood Services Award went to Doris Vowels; and the Gwen Carlson Safety Services Award was presented to Dorothy Scheitlin.
