Americans are a forward-looking people. Many are obsessed with and seek to forecast the future. The Apostle James in 4:13-17 says you can make three mistakes as you look to tomorrow.
One point must be made before we go further – the Bible is not against planning. Proverbs says if I don’t plan, I am a fool. James pictures two men making plans, but their mistake was leaving God out (4:13). It is great to plan as long as you include God.
Planning without prayer is pre sumptuous. All planning should be prefaced with “if the Lord wills” (4:15).
