About 50 veterans were honored for their service to our country Nov. 9 at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. It was the second year the school held the ceremony. Twenty-nine veterans were in attendance as they were recognized for their individual efforts and accomplishments by retired Lt. Col. Garry Ross.
ALES speech team members Breea Kirkpatrick and Harrison Hynes rendered poems in honor of the veterans and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Bill Gehr recited “A Toast to the Flag.” Students from Scout Troop 151 offered the Presentation of Colors and the ALES Singers presented several songs. Nathan Nash played “Taps.”
The students and families at ALES also participated in the Veterans Day parade held Nov. 8. They carried posters of veterans they wished to honor.
