Sean Gearon honored for his dedication

By The Staff

Students, faculty, and staff at Abraham Lincoln Elementary recently dedicated their conference room to the honor and memory of school council member Sean Gearon who died unexpectedly last fall of a heart attack. Gearon, a six-year member of both the former Magnolia Elementary and new Abraham Lincoln Elementary School Based Decision Making Councils, was known for his passion for children and improving their education.

Principal Amber Thurman presided over the ceremony in which Gearon's wife, Paula; three of his children, Joey, Mary and Meagan; and his brother Steve attended. Council members Jackie Harley, Karlotta Cecil and Missy Flanders noted that Gearon's influence was still a major part of many of their decisions.

"Sean had his finger on everything here and didn't mind sharing his opinion either," said a teary-eyed Harley.

"I can almost hear Sean saying, "Come on, let's get this project moving," said school manager Kathy Ross as she left the ceremony.
