Akin receives funeral director's license

Akin took her State Board Examination on Dec. 6 and received her results from the Kentucky State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors on Dec. 13.

She is a 1979 Graduate of Nelson County High School and a 1985 graduate of the University of Louisville, with a degree in arts and sciences. Most recently she has successfully passed the Kentucky State Boards that allows her to serve as a licensed funeral director in Kentucky.

She began working her apprenticeship at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in September 2008, where she will continue to serve as the assistant manager for the funeral home in New Haven. She is designing and selling monuments in Nelson, LaRue and surrounding counties.

Akin lives in Hodgenville with her husband Todd. They have three children, Ruthie, Sophia and James. She is the daughter of Ruth Ball Greenwell and the late James Woodrow “Woody” Greenwell of Culvertown.
