Elyssa Hawkins will celebrate her eighth birthday Saturday with friends, cake and games.

But she won’t receive a single gift.

Instead, the second-grader is asking that any amount that would have been spent on a video game or doll be donated to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand project, a fundraiser for childhood cancer research.
