4-H enrollment is currently taking place for 2012-13. School club meetings are being held for 4th and 5th graders. These students have the opportunity to sign up and participate in 4-H at school. However, 4-H is open to all youth ages 9 to 18.
All current members must complete a new 4-H enrollment form each year in order to remain a member. 4-H Cloverbud activities are also available for 5 to 8 year olds. The 4-H year goes from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31.
Enrollment forms are available at the Extension Office and online at http://ces.ca.uky.edu/larue/4HYouthDevelopment. Click on “Enrollment” on the left hand column of items.
When completing the form, members may select from a variety of 4-H projects and activities. Members may also wish to be involved in 4-H through one of our many 4-H Project Clubs.
Current 4-H Clubs include Shooting Sports, Wranglers Horse Club, Dog Club, Photography Club, Gardening Club, Cooking Club, Livestock Club, Poultry Club, Rabbit Club and the Explorers.
A new 4-H Club this year will be the Kids Choice Club. This will be an after school club that will focus on being active. Participants will get to vote on 4-H projects and activities that they wish to do with the club. Other Project Clubs may be started with the help of volunteer club leaders.
4-H is always in need of volunteers to help expand the program to the youth of LaRue County. We are in need of volunteers to serve as judges for contests, to chaperone and to help with other 4-H activities and events throughout the year.
We also need volunteers with specific areas of interest. For example, if a volunteer would like to start a 4-H Woodworking Club, that would be a possibility. If you are interested in volunteering with 4-H in any way, please call me.
In order to work directly with youth, you must complete an application and background check. With more 4-H volunteers, we can reach more youth. Consider making a commitment to the youth of LaRue County.
