4-H contest deadlines approaching

The 4-H Talent Show will be 6:30 p.m. March 26 at LaRue County High School auditorium. Pre-registration is required by March 22. In order to pre-register, call the Extension Office at 358-3401 or stop by to pick up a registration form. 

The talent show is open to all LaRue County youth ages 9 to 18. A variety of categories are offered. A group act category is also offered for acts with five or more participants. Other acts may have from one to four participants.

The maximum time limit for acts is four minutes with no minimum time requirement. Group acts with five or more participants have a time maximum of eight minutes.

Prizes will be given for first and second place in each category for the top junior and senior division winners. Junior participants are ages 9 to 13 as of Jan. 1, 2010. Senior participants are 14-18 years old. First prize is $15 and second prize is $10 in all categories and age divisions. All participants will receive a ribbon and the winning acts will qualify to advance to the Lincoln Trail Area Talent Show to be held on May 15.

4-H Poster Contest

The 4-H poster contest deadline is approaching. Posters must be submitted to the Extension Office by March 26. 4-H is the subject for the poster which can take any approach on any area of 4-H. Members can show what 4-H is, what they do in 4-H, or what 4-H has to offer. The poster may also be promotional to get youth to join 4-H.

Every poster entry will receive a 4-H ribbon. Grade level winners will be selected for the 4th-8th grades and high school. Grade level winning posters will advance to the District Poster Contest.

The following rules apply to the poster contest:

•Posters must be designed on a 14x22” poster board (half a regular poster board).

•Foam core board or mat board is not allowed.

•Posters may be designed horizontally or vertically using any medium: watercolor, ink, crayon, oils, pencil or collage.

•Posters cannot be three-dimensional.

•Copyrighted characters may not be used, including all cartoon characters.

•The 4-Hers name, age, full address, county, and a brief interpretive statement must be on the back of the poster board in the upper left hand corner.

•Categories are: 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade and high school.

•Submit poster to Misty Wilmoth, LaRue County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville.
