Summer vacation got off to a good start for 14 third to seventh graders attending volleyball camp.
Coach Ben Schell said the participants worked very hard, yet had a lot of fun at the camp learning to play volleyball. Schell is looking forward to the start of volleyball season next fall.
He’ll have an experienced team since he lost only two students to graduation. The team’s record last year was 20-12 and the coach is looking to improve that record with the addition of a transfer from Green County and Valerie Whitlock, a multi-sport athlete.
Coach Schell had ample help from several seniors at the camp. Emily Boone and Jessica Stanley took the participants through volleyball drills.
Boone, who also plays softball, enjoys the fast paced action of volleyball.
“Jessica and I really work hard off the court,” she said. “We have been doing a lot of running, conditioning and this year started lifting weights in order to improve our game.”
Stanley said she likes the “team atmosphere” of the game.
“All of us are friends and we enjoy working together,” said Stanley. “I really like playing volleyball for Coach Schell. He is firm but fair, a really great coach.”
The camp was held June 8-9.
