Special to The LaRue County Herald News

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park will host the band “Privates by Choice” Saturday, Sept. 7, as they perform original music scores from the Civil War era.

The free concert will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the visitor’s center patio.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the war, the group will perform a unique selection of newly composed acoustic and folk songs.

Instruments featured will be guitar, mandolin, violin, hammered dulcimer, cello, mountain dulcimer, bass and some light percussion in various combinations.

The ensemble’s writers and musicians all have Kentucky roots, except for one individual from Missouri. Each is a well-seasoned musician with credits and recordings gracing many public radio station programs.

Parking will be in the visitor center parking lot and spaces will be given out on a first come-first served basis.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to use during the concert.
